I’m sure that by now the vast majority of craft beer hounds here in San Diego are well-versed in the art of collaboration when it comes to breweries and brewers getting together to concoct something special that they might not normally do on their own. How that sometimes goes down can be observed first hand in our piece with Pure Project’s Winslow Sawyer and the now departed (thankfully he’s not dead, he’s just moved on to other challenges) Cosimo Sorrentino, previously of Monkey Paw and South Park Brewing fame.
Outside of brewer collaborations, it’s becoming more and more popular for “other than breweries” to get in on the collaborative spirit in an effort to hop the marketing train (pun intended) that the craft beer industry has developed into.
Many of the San Diego craft beer breweries already do an outstanding job giving back to the community by teaming up with charities (not necessarily bonafide collaborations in and of themselves but still worth mentioning) but we’re also seeing more and more musicians and bands in conjunction with charities teaming up with local brewmeisters in order to spread the word on beer, music and someone’s choice cause du jour.
As well as being one of the newest additions to the craft beer landscape in North Park, Eppig Brewing is the latest to throw their hats into the musical collaboration ring with Weight of The Sun and their efforts to benefit the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation with a New England style IPA.
